How To Reach Your Goals in 2019

As we move through January and get started on our New Year’s resolutions like losing weight, getting fit or drinking less, it may seem ever more difficult to stick to our guns and follow through on our commitments.

Well, thankfully help is on the way as I present our top 3 tips for staying motivated to reach your goals along with why they work.

Are you ready? Okay, here we go…

Top Tip Number 1:  Make sure you’re determined – no matter what happens – to stick to your goal for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Why it works:

The first couple of weeks are always the hardest, especially when the initial enthusiasm has faded and the cravings, fatigue, and sacrifices begin to dig in.  Also you will probably find that a lot of the initial discomfort and difficulty has gone now and things are getting easier every day – think about how hard it is riding a bike or going for a run if you haven’t done it for a while but how quickly you get used to it when you do it on a daily basis.

Top Tip Number 2: Don’t make your big goal the center of daily focus. Instead, concentrate on the daily actions that you’ve set to achieve your long-term goal.

Tip 2 focus on everyday small steps

Why it works:
This is your chance to track and evaluate your progress on what works and what doesn’t. For example, if your big goal is to lose 20 pounds in weight by the last day of the year, each and every day should focus on what steps you’re taking in order to achieve that goal. ie daily exercise routine or preparing a certain low carb meal. Focusing your mind on the process makes taking those actions easier and this leads you steadily closer to your big goal.

Top Tip Number 3:  Discover your purpose

Why it works:
In order to reach any goal, it is much easier if you really know why you are doing it.

Once you have established your ‘why’ you can then go about specifically planning concrete ways of reaching that goal.

So, for example, saying you want to be able to exercise 1,5 hours per day in the gym in order to lose some weight and become slimmer and fitter so you can fit into your wedding dress (and impress your friends) is much better than just saying something vague like “I want to get fit and lose weight”.
