When it comes to looking younger at any age, there’s no one else out there that has a face that’s quite like yours. That’s why having facial rejuvenation treatment is such an individualized choice that requires you to do your homework beforehand.
We all show similar signs of aging, over time such as fine lines, wrinkles, deep nasolabial folds, sunken cheek fad pads, and laxity in the lower jaw and neck area.
In addition to this, some us show drooping of the eyes, eyelids, eyebrows, and even the nose. We also experience loss of contour around the temples and fat formation under the chin.
The fact is that each of our faces tells its own individual story and thus needs to be treated accordingly.
In the next few paragraphs, I’ll be discussing some facial rejuvenation options which will make your face look younger and you feel better.
Some of you will be interested in improving the quality of your skin; others will be interested in lifting and tightening. Some of you may be interested in both.
Nowadays, there are several options that you can consider when it comes to facial rejuvenation.
If you’re younger in the 20s, 30s, and even 40s, you might want to consider treatments like Botox and dermal fillers for treating fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and face, fat grafting for restoring lost volume in the midface, and dermal threads for repositioning fallen fat pads. Laser skin resurfacing can clear up your complexion, eradicate skin irregularities like old acne scars and pigmentation and tighten up your jowls, double chin, and neck.
If you’re over 55, you can still consider most of the treatments I just mentioned above for the younger folks. The difference is that with more significant sagging around the jowls, and on the neck, you will probably need to consider having a surgical facelift.
When we speak about facial rejuvenation to make you look 10 years younger, we need to categorize the problem issues into (1) gravity-related and (2) skin quality-related like acne or sun damage.
Gravity – Why is your skin loosening and becoming saggy?
This is due to 2 factors: Natural Aging and Gravity.
First, with regards to natural aging, it’s collagen and elastin in your skin that make it look and feel younger. Collagen and elastin are the skin’s structure system that keeps the skin tone, elastic, and plump. As we age, the amount of this collagen and elastin made by the skin decreases. We don’t have as much as we once did. Therefore, the skin gradually becomes weaker, loosens, and sags. Moreover, muscle, fat, and connective tissues also weaken and contribute to sagging.
Second, with less collagen and elastin in the skin, weakening muscles, connective tissue, and fat, the face ultimately succumbs to the downward pull of Gravity. Ergo, our faces become more square in shape, and we look more tired and even a bit sad!
Now, let’s turn to the subject of skin quality. Do you have fine lines around your eyes (crows feet), forehead wrinkles, frown lines, or wrinkles around the lips? Maybe you have wrinkles elsewhere on your face, old acne scars, small broken capillaries, or brown pigmentation blemishes? Your skin may just look tired out, altogether.
These issues can be genetic, due to heavy sun-exposure, sun-damage, or part of the natural aging process.
I won’t go into depth on this one because there are a lot of issues that can contribute to poor skin quality. Things that you may have little or no control over.
Spending lots of time in the Sun damages your skin and results in the premature appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face. The Sun and environmental pollutants cause the formation of free radicals in your skin, which ultimately lead to its slow breakdown, and you, looking older than you age.
Natural Aging Process
The natural aging process is something that all of us will succumb to in time. Everything that I have spoken about so far falls into this category.
Whether your skin looks older due to Gravity, genetics, sun-damage, or natural aging, the good news is that there are many different types of treatments available. Treatments that not only slow down the aging on your face but can even reverse aging and give you back vibrant, younger-looking skin.
