You know, it’s sometimes hard to believe that it’s 2020. It seemed like just yesterday when I was watching if Y2K (Year 2000) was going to crash the computer systems worldwide.
Luckily it didn’t, and no such event occurred.
But yes, 20 years have since passed, and, now, at the start of another year, it’s time to make our new resolutions and be prepared for all of life’s unbeknownst challenges.
We all know that challenges like losing weight, getting fit, drinking less, and being healthy all pop up on the list this time of year, but what can we do to stay motivated and set out on the right track toward reaching a worthy goal?
Well, here are 5 tips to get the year off to the right start.
Top Tip 1 – Commitment To Your Goals
Whatever goals you set out for yourself, you must get into the proper state of mind and commit yourself wholeheartedly for at least 2 weeks. Getting started is always the hardest, but this is the time when you can really change your habits. For instance, remember back to the days when you learned how to ride a bike. It wasn’t so easy at first and may have been a little scary as well. Then, after a bit of practice, Voila! You get used to it.
It’s no different now, as adults. Just Do it!
Top Tip 2 – Get Fitter and Stronger
It’s no secret that after a certain age, we, ourselves, determine how rapidly (or not!) we age. Getting fitter and stronger, not only has many benefits for athletes in competition but also for the rest of us seeking a longer-lasting, youthful appearance. For instance, regular exercise increases blood flow and oxygenation to the bones, joints, and skin. Better oxygen supply helps to keep our stride springy and agile and our skin better toned, textured, and elastic.
So join the gym nearby or start going for regular daily walks and keep yourself looking younger, longer.
Top Tip 3 – Lose Weight
We all want to look our best, and for most of us, that means looking, fit, and healthy. Unfortunately, January is generally a bad time for all 3 as it is straight after December, so we often have the post-Christmas season blues, we’re a little overweight, out of shape and a bit depressed due to the cold weather.
Drink more freshwater and reduce the number of sugary drinks. Also, eat more 100% whole-grain bread, fruit, and vegetables. Studies have shown that if you add more of these in your diet, you’ll not only lose weight but lower the risk of some diseases like stroke, diabetes, colorectal cancer, and heart disease.
Top Tip 4 – Drink Less Alcohol
Because the holiday season is now over, it’s a perfect time to give up the booze for a few weeks and give your liver a bit of detox.
So, to help you find something to replace the beer, wine, and cocktails this month, I have put together one favorite alcohol-free drink to get you off to a healthy and hangover-free start in 2020.
Pineapple Ginger Zinger
Refreshing, super tasty, and seriously healthy – what’s there not to love?
1 liter of chilled ginger ale
4 cups of chilled pineapple juice
1 piece of thinly sliced fresh ginger
1 thinly sliced orange
½ a cup of fresh basil leaves (with stems removed)
How to make it: Just put it all together in a large jug, add some crushed ice, give it a good stir, and hey presto a great all year round drink and especially good for any booze-free January get-togethers! Cheers!
