Thermage Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THERMAGE?

Thermage is a non-invasive(non-ablative), rejuvenating skin treatment that can greatly improve the overall structure, tone, and elasticity while softening fine wrinkles and lines on your skin. This state-of-the-art, FDA approved technology uses radiofrequency (RF) energy that penetrates deeply into the layers of your skin causing collagen to contract and tighten.  Simultaneously, fibroblasts are stimulated to produce new collagen, which further tightens and rejuvenates your skin.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The treatment is non-invasive so there are no incisions, no injections, no scars, no stitches, and as consequence, no downtime.  The results are two-tiered meaning that you will experience some immediate effects right after the treatment and continued improvement even up to 6 months post-treatment.

DOES THERMAGE REALLY WORK?

Thermage is a radiofrequency based skin tightening and rejuvenating treatment. The thermal energy penetrates deep into the skin to cause already existing collagen to contract.  Furthermore, heat energy also stimulates blood supply and fibroblasts to produce new collagen over the course of approximately 4-6 months.  If your skin is elastic and tone, Thermage treatment will be effective.

Thermage is not a substitute for facelift surgery.  If you have more severe sagging or skin laxity from normal aging, sun overexposure or sudden large changes in body weight, you may need to consider other options as well.

The procedure is recommended as part of a global anti-aging skin rejuvenation and maintenance program. It can be repeated every 2-3 years.

HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?

This depends on your age and your body’s natural aging process.  In general, the results may last anywhere from 1-3 years.  The optimal age for treatment is between 30-60 years.  Over 60, skin is less elastic and the ability to produce new collagen decreases and therefore, the results will be less apparent.  Other powerful laser therapies such as Profractional Laser or HALO hybrid fractional laser may also be considered.

HOW LONG WILL THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

Depending on the extent and number of body areas treated,  the procedure can take anywhere from 20 minutes – 2 hours.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME AFTER THE TREATMENT?

No. Thermage is a powerful treatment, but it is non-invasive or non-ablative.  After the procedure is completed, you may experience some redness or mild swelling, but there is no downtime or recovery needed.  You can return to all your regular daily activities immediately afterward.

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO STAY IN BUDAPEST?

There is no recommended stay time in Budapest.  You are able to leave the clinic and depart for home any time you like.  We hope you will stay a bit to enjoy beautiful Budapest.

WHAT AREAS OF THE BODY CAN THERMAGE BE USED?

Thermage can be used on almost all parts of the body which need skin tightening. Most commonly it is used on the face, neck, and decollete(chest), but it’s also equally effective on the eyelids, tummy, upper arm, hands, breasts, thighs, and knees.  Your consultation with the plastic surgeon will determine which areas are best recommended for you.

IS THERMAGE PAINFUL?

For most areas on the face, the treatment is not painful and you will only feel the warmth of the laser.  Some areas, including the jawline, temple area and around the nostrils can be a bit more sensitive. A premedication can be given to you for relaxation beforehand.

If you are treating your eyes, special eye shields or dark contact lenses will be placed in each eye as their being treated.
