Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammaplasty surgery, is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic treatments today. Designed to make your breasts fuller, firmer, and younger-looking, breast enhancement restores natural attractive body contours, breast fullness, and self-confidence.
Several factors, such as poor health, medications, injury, sudden weight loss, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the normal aging process, can affect breast size, shape, and fullness.
It’s essential to have realistic expectations about the final results and what’s achievable for you. Following the discussion with the surgeon, you will be able to come to a better-informed decision.
Breast augmentation or breast enhancement surgery is a plastic surgical intervention performed by a certified plastic surgeon for several reasons.
The main goal of breast enhancement is to increase the size, shape, and fullness of the breasts. Breast enhancement can also correct smaller degrees of asymmetry between the right and left breasts.
Nowadays, there is more than one way to increase the size of your breasts. The most commonly performed method of breast augmentation involves the use of a cohesive silicone gel breast implant either under the breast tissue or under the chest wall muscle or both.
Cohesive silicone gel breast implants (‘gummy bears’) are durable and designed to last a long time. In the rare instance that a breast implant should rupture, the thick, sticky gel remains within the breast implant capsule and won’t leak into your body.
Our surgeons use only the highest quality, world-renowned, cohesive silicone breast implants coming from the most reputable implant manufacturers.
The breast implant material resembles that of a soft, sticky, jelly-like material within a thin, harder silicone covering shell. To the touch, together, they feel similar to natural breasts.
In addition to cohesive silicone implants, augmentation mammaplasty with natural fat has become quite popular. During this procedure, fat tissue is harvested (liposuctioned) from other parts of the body and transferred into your breasts.
The benefits of a breast augmentation procedure are numerous. Firstly, a breast enhancement will give you bigger, fuller breasts. Secondly, it can contour your breasts to your ideal dream shape and projection. Thirdly, your breasts will be firmer and younger-looking, making you feel more attractive. And, finally, an augmentation mammaplasty can correct smaller asymmetries between the right and left breasts. Adding this all together, a breast augmentation surgery, will boost your self-confidence and self-image and help to eliminate previous emotional issues attached to your breasts.
In most cases, a breast augmentation surgery involves making an incision under the breast, in the submammary cease. Fortunately, this incision is in an entirely covered location, and the surgeon will strive to make it as inconspicuous as possible.
Although scarring may never become completely invisible, the scars will continually fade in the months following the surgery. The surgeon will discuss the exact location and extent of the scaring at your consultation.
Breast augmentation results are long-lasting. It’s a good idea to have regular checkups with your plastic surgeon or home general doctor. Over time, natural aging will change your breasts and thus the results of your surgery. We recommend you adhere to your post-surgical instruction for best long-term results.
A breast enhancement surgery with either cohesive silicone gel breast implants takes typically between 1-3 hours to complete, depending on the extent of the operation. Natural fat breast augmentation, on the other hand, can take up to 3 hours or more because there are two procedures performed – liposuction and lipofilling.
Augmentation mammaplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and therefore, you will be asleep for the entire procedure.
Upon awakening, you will probably experience some pain, soreness, tight feeling in your chest, and all-around discomfort. This is natural as the healing and recovery process in your body begins.
It’s essential to follow all the post-operative instructions to be as comfortable as possible in your place of accommodation. Discomfort, bruising, soreness, and swelling will last only a few days, and you will be able to resume normal activities after a few days rest.
You will receive painkillers to ease any discomfort you may have in the first few days.
After discharge from the clinic, you will be able to return to your private accommodation. We ask that you remain in Budapest for a minimum recommended stay time of 5-7 days. During this initial recovery period, you should return to the clinic to have a few check-ups and to change dressings. Your surgeon will evaluate your healing progress and confirm your suitability to return home.
We recommend private accommodation to you in the nearby vicinity of the clinic so that you can return with ease if any additional post-operative care or treatment is needed.
After you safely arrive home, we recommend that you immediately check in with your home doctor for a full evaluation. If there are any questions regarding your post-operative recovery, please contact us.
Normally, for a breast augmentation surgery, we recommend you stay in Budapest for a minimum of 5-7 days.
Recovering after breast augmentation surgery is dependent upon factors such as your current state of health, your age, your body’s healing ability and the extent of the procedure undergone.
Immediately following the surgery, you will be given a flexible bandage to wear for the 1st week. A tightness feeling in your breasts can remain for several weeks post-op. After the first week, the dressing will be removed and replaced by a supportive elastic sports bra. You should wear the bra for an additional 4-5 weeks to ensure that the implants settle correctly.
After approximately 6 weeks of healing, you can return to all normal routine activities. We recommend that you refrain from direct sunlight or solarium exposure to the area for at least three months. You will see the final results of shape and appearance after approximately three months.
Although initial downtime for fat transfer augmentation mammaplasty is not as long as with breast implants, complete recovery may take longer. The main reason for this is both the breasts and the liposuctioned area must heal. For ten days following surgery, you will be required to wear a small waterproof dressing around the area where fat injected. Following this, you will need to wear a supportive sports bra for at least three days a week. In the harvested fat regions, you will need to wear a compression garment for approximately three weeks. Avoid all strenuous exercise for a minimum of 3 weeks.
There are certain risks involved with all types of surgery. The majority of side effects are often temporary but can include edema, bleeding, infections, and some loss of sensitivity in the skin of the breast area. At your consultation, the surgeon will discuss all the risks involved with you.
