Hungary offers both men and women a close-to-home destination for lower costs and highly experienced, certified plastic surgeons. If you are unhappy with the overall appearance and contour of your nose or experiencing breathing difficulties as a result of a nasal accident or trauma, rhinoplasty surgery in Budapest, Hungary may be the right option for you.
At your consultation with the plastic surgeon, you will be evaluated as to whether rhinoplasty is suitable for you. There are several factors, such as your medical history and current health status, that are very important. While discussing your issues, you must have realistic expectations of what a rhinoplasty is and what it can do. The consultation with the surgeon will enable you to come to an informed decision.
Rhinoplasty surgery or ‘nose job’ is a surgical procedure designed to aesthetically enhance or change the size and shape of your nose. It is also used to restore or improve inadequate nasal breathing function. Incisions are made mostly inside the nose to access the bone and cartilage. The bone and cartilage give support and shape to the nose. The goal of rhinoplasty surgery is to create facial harmony and correct breathing difficulties.
Since a rhinoplasty involves surgery on your face, and you may be uncomfortable or self-conscious about going out in public for a few days, you’ll want to prepare as best you can for a little rest and recovery. On our checklist of things to do before surgery include (1)filling your prescriptions at the pharmacy, (2)stocking the refrigerator with a few days supply of food and lots of water and fruit smoothies, (3)buying lip balm or moisturizers to keep your lips moist, and (4)preparing your bed and accommodation to be as comfortable and clean as possible.
Since a rhinoplasty involves incisions mostly inside the nose, the scarring is usually hidden or inconspicuous. Only in a few cases where changes may be made to the base of the nostrils may stitches be placed in a visible area. Even in these cases, as healing progresses, the scars will become mostly undetectable. Because several changes can be made to your nose, you should ask your surgeon where the scarring will be present and how visible they may or may not be.
Rhinoplasty surgery or a nose job, like other plastic surgeries (Ie. facelift, tummy tuck) is permanent and, therefore, cannot be reversed or changed back. It’s important to decide what type of nose you wish to have and what will fit your facial harmony best beforehand. It’s also imperative to have an experienced plastic surgeon do your rhinoplasty because the nose is a complex structure consisting of symmetrical sides and multiple small cartilages and bone.
Depending on the extent and technique of the surgery, the procedure can take anywhere from 1-3 hours.
This very much depends on the extent of the surgery you have and your body’s healing abilities. Generally speaking, a full recovery can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks. We recommend that you make your plans to return to work and daily routine appropriately. With that said, you can start moving around within 1-2 days of the procedure. However, you should not attempt any strenuous exercise or work for at least 6 weeks post-op. For example, you should not lift any heavy weights or move large objects. You can return to work or normal daily activities after 2-3 weeks. Complete recovery also depends upon factors such as your age and your state of health.
Rhinoplasty is performed under either a general anesthetic or a local anesthetic. This depends mostly on the extent of the procedure you are going to have. With minor changes to the nostrils, nasal tip, or other cartilages, it’s possible to have the method with just local anesthetic. For more significant nasal changes involving the bone(nasal bridge) or larger areas of cartilage, you will be given a general anesthetic. Which type of anesthesia you have will be discussed with your surgeon at the consultation.
Most people can return to their everyday, normal activities after just a few days rest. Swelling and some bruising may be present in the beginning. This will resolve over just a couple of weeks. If the nasal (bone) bridge was altered, you might also experience bruising around the eyes as well, which will also resolve over a few weeks.
With most nasal corrections, you will have to wear a nasal splint for about a week. The function of the splint is to help manage swelling and keep your nose in its new position.
All strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks post-operation. Any activity that may involve head contact or injury to the nose should be avoided at all costs. Routine exercise can be resumed after 10-14 days.
Because each patient heals differently, we generally say that the final results of a nose job can be seen after about 6 months.
Breathing after rhinoplasty tends to get easier after about a week. Your nose will have some nasal packing or gauze in it, making it more challenging to take in air in the first week. Once this comes out, you will be able to breathe easy again. With continued healing, breathing will return to normal or its improved state over a couple of weeks.
The only aspect of nasal surgery that can cause a little pain is the injections you receive under local anesthetic in the beginning. Once the sedative takes effect, you will not feel any more pain. Post-operation, there may be some discomfort feeling that you can manage easily with painkillers. It’s important to remain in Budapest after your rhinoplasty for the appropriated amount of time for any discomfort to disappear.
The best age to have a rhinoplasty is any age. There is no age where you cannot have one. However, it is best to wait until the nose has stopped its pubertal growth phase. For boys, this is usually a little later than for girls; at least 18 years. For girls, this age should be at least 16 years. Correction of a deviated septum can be part of what is called functional rhinoplasty. In this case, breathing difficulties may be caused by a deviation in the median septum (cartilage) in the nose that separates the right nostril from the left one. A deviated septum can limit airflow to one side of the nose at the same time, causing your nose to appear crooked. The straightening of the septum can be corrected either alone or as part of your rhinoplasty. Some plastic surgeons can make septum correction, and some will request an assistant ENT or nose specialist to correct. This may add to your final surgery cost.
